Our own Fam trip Slovenia itinerary focused on hitting the highlights, starting with the iconic beauty of Bled and Kranjska Gora before heading to the capital, the Karst region, and finally, the stunning Istrian coast.

The infrastructure for campervans is excellent, with numerous well-equipped campsites, such as Adria Campsite where our team enjoyed the spa center and proximity to the sea before heading towards Venice. Koper's Coastal Charm: Cycling the Legendary Parenzana

Once you arrive on the coast, the best way to see the Slovenian seaside towns, beaches, and hidden restaurants is by bike. The area around Koper offers a unique opportunity to cycle the legendary Parenzana. This arranged bicycle path runs along the route of the former railway from Trieste all the way to Poreč (130 km). You can easily ride the Slovenian part of this historic route, from Ankaran or Koper to Portorož.

This activity is perfect for all ages, especially when equipped with the right gear. Our guests safely navigated the route to Piran and back, thanks to the excellent equipment available locally.

A Taste of Istria: Olive Oil Tasting Experience

The Slovenian coast, or Istria, is a land rich in culinary tradition, and no visit is complete without sampling its world-class olive oil. With just a 15-minute drive, you can leave the city of Koper and get immersed in the beautiful countryside and Istrian scenery.

Our journey took us to the tourist farm RED FAIRYTALE in the village of Marezige, where we received a complete introduction to the world of their premium extra virgin olive oil.

The experience began with a visit to the ancient olive groves, allowing us to admire the beautiful countryside composed of ancient groves with mountains and hills. This guided olive oil tasting with snacks is a unique, sensory experience that connects travelers to the bounty of the land.

Traditional Slovenian Food and Wine: From Boškarin Carpaccio to Izolanka Dessert

Slovenian Istria is a paradise for gourmands. The region’s cuisine is rustic, fresh, and deeply rooted in its history. Our group was treated to some of the finest traditional Slovenian food and wine that will excite any palate.

At Grondali Farm in the Istrian village of Abitanti, grape growing has been a tradition for nearly 300 years. This picturesque farm reflects a rich agricultural heritage and showcases the dedication of its cultivators. A highlight of our visit was the exquisite Boškarin carpaccio, made with high-quality, locally sourced Boškarin beef, embodying the farm's commitment to regional gastronomic traditions.

Our dinner at Grondali Farm was delightful, beginning with homemade pasta adorned with aromatic truffles, highlighting the farm's artisanal cooking. We also enjoyed expertly grilled roast beef from the farm’s livestock, seasoned and charred to perfection, balancing tenderness and flavor.

Our culinary journey included delectable homemade cold cuts, each slice reflecting traditional Istrian charcuterie. These were perfectly paired with the farm's homemade Refošk wine, known for its robust flavor and velvety finish, enhancing the richness of our meal and the harmony of the Istrian land, food, and wine.

The Bordon wine estate offers a standout guided tasting experience for wine enthusiasts and casual visitors. Held in a modern cellar that honors the region's winemaking history, the tasting features curated lighting and climate control to present wines at their best.

Guests can also enjoy tastings on a sunny terrace with views of vineyards, providing a serene atmosphere with comfortable seating and local decor. Knowledgeable staff share the estate's rich history and passion for winemaking, offering premium wines that reflect Istria's unique terroir.

The tasting includes a variety of wines paired with local Istrian delicacies, enhancing the flavors and highlighting the region's culinary heritage.

But the coastal culinary journey would not be complete without a sweet note. In the charming town of Izola, we discovered a beautiful local tribute: Izolanka. At Sladoledarna in Kavarna Pri Ekremu, we enjoyed the flavours of this specialty dessert, which was created in collaboration with the local community to represent the town. The Izolanka is a really rich dessert, consisting of different layers of white and dark pastry, with the darker layer made with walnuts.

The pastry or sponge cake is soaked in natural orange juice for freshness, and everything is tied together by natural vanilla cream. This dessert is a perfect, sweet symbol of Izola's community spirit and culinary innovation, showing that even a simple scoop of ice cream can tell a local story.
