- The Boka Waterfall: A Majestic Wonder in Slovenia
Slovenia is a land of pristine natural beauty, and one of its most awe-inspiring gems is the Boka Waterfall (Slap Boka). Known as the mightiest and most water-rich waterfall in Slovenia, Boka is a breathtaking spectacle, standing 144 meters tall and spanning 18 meters in width. It's no surprise that this majestic cascade is considered one of the most impressive waterfalls in Europe. How to Get to Boka Waterfall Nestled in the Soča Valley, Boka Waterfall is easily accessible and offers a rewarding journey for nature enthusiasts. By Car : The waterfall is visible from the road connecting Bovec to Žaga. Use the provided Google Maps link for exact directions. Hiking to the Viewpoint : Park near the bridge on the Bovec-Žaga road. From the bridge, follow the marked trail to a panoramic viewpoint, which is about a 15-minute walk with moderate effort. Adventurous hikers can continue uphill to a viewpoint overlooking the waterfall. This trail requires 45 minutes of steep climbing but rewards you with unparalleled views of Boka's roaring beauty. When to Visit The best times to visit are spring and autumn , when snowmelt and seasonal rainfall enhance the waterfall's flow, sometimes reaching an impressive 100 cubic meters per second . During these periods, the thunderous cascade is especially photogenic and mesmerizing. In the drier summer months, the flow reduces significantly, but the surrounding landscape remains enchanting. The Legend of Boka While the Boka Waterfall captivates with its natural grandeur, a darker tale lingers in folklore. Legend tells of two hungry children who sought shelter in a house on the hill. The seemingly kind old lady who welcomed them had sinister plans to harm them. In a desperate act of self-defence, the boy turned the axe she planned to use on them against her. It is said her spilled blood transformed into the mighty Boka Waterfall, a striking contrast to the area's serene beauty. Why Visit Boka Waterfall? Unmatched Beauty : Framed by the rugged Kanin mountains, Boka is an unforgettable sight. Accessible Adventure : The short hike makes it a perfect destination for families and nature lovers. Rich Surroundings : Explore nearby attractions in the Soča Valley, such as the emerald-green Soča River, Triglav National Park, and the charming town of Bovec. Plan Your Visit Witnessing the Boka Waterfall is an experience that will leave you in awe of Slovenia’s natural treasures. - Kamnik-visit an active, green, and vital alpine destination
A colourful range of tastes, homeliness, relaxation, nature, past and experiences - all this is offered to the visitor by the town of Kamnik, in the arms of the Kamnik-Savinjske Alps, near Ljubljana. You can visit it not only by car but also by train and thus conjure up an unforgettable experience for the youngest! Kamnik is a town of friendly people, a town with tradition, history and rich heritage, a town with a soul. The beautiful architectural and sacral heritage still reminds us of the time when Kamnik was the capital of the Carniola region. People like to live in Kamnik, feel and breathe with it. They want you to feel with them. That is why we invite you to take a walk together through the many riches of the town of Kamnik and its surroundings. Kamnik, a town of three castles Kamnik is considered one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Slovenia. Once a flourishing trading town, where the counts of the Andes from Bavaria had their headquarters. In those days, Kamnik was the capital of Kranjska. In the 11th century, the city hill boasted an impressive castle complex - Mali Grad. Today, only the two-story Romanesque chapel with a crypt is preserved, which is also one of the main symbols of the city. From the hill, there is a wonderful view of the town and the Kamnik-Savinjske Alps. Stari grad Is one of the oldest castles in eastern Carniola. The excellent location of the hill Stari grad and just the right visibility made it possible to control the medieval trade route that led through the city. Today, the old castle is a wonderful vantage point, popular with hikers and families, as the climb is not that difficult and takes only 30 minutes. A small hill above the town boasts Zaprica Castle, which was once the seat of an important noble family. Today, it houses the Kamnik inter-municipal museum, which also has two additional dislocated units in the city: the Miha maleš gallery and the birthplace of Rudolf Maister. Go on a hike to the highest peaks of the Kamnik-Savinjske Alps and overcome the highest altitude difference in Slovenia. When you are in this area, be sure to stop in the valley of Kamniška Bistrica, a valley with wonderful natural features, and have lunch at the stone table where even the Austrian emperor once dined. Listen to the story of countess Veronika from Mali Grad or the famous Kamnik majolicas - earthenware traditionally made in Kamnik. Admire medieval carvings along the most beautiful street in town, Šutna street , and visit local shops. Walk through the halls of the Kamnik intermunicipal museum , the birthplace of Rudolf Maister , the rich franciscan library, or discover Plečnik's heritage in the Kamnik-savinja area. Revitalize your body and strengthen your immune system in the Tunjica natural medicinal grove , the only holistic health centre in Europe with scientific evidence of healing effects on health and the body. Kamnik Soothing relaxation in the stone house and surroundings of Tuhinjska Valley Forget about stress and recharge your batteries in Kamnik, in the beautiful Tuhinjska valley, there is the highest spa in Slovenia, Terme Snovik . The offer follows the guidelines of sustainable tourism and is the first tourist provider in our area to include all five kneipp elements in its offer. In the surrounding area, you can find many themed trails, a path for barefoot walking and an herb garden. Discover kneipp in Kamnik (Terme Snovik) Among the lesser-known facts is that in the period between the 19th and 20th centuries, an incredibly famous bathing complex called the Kurhaus was in Kamnik. The complex of public swimming pools stood at the confluence of the Nevljica and kamniška Bistrica rivers and was founded by Alojz Prašnikar (1821–1899). It attracted many visitors from Trieste, Vienna and Prague and could even compete with Bled. Sebastian Kneipp himself, the inventor of Kneipp therapy, praised the bathhouse. In his approach, Sebastian Kneipp believed that the elements of water, plants, exercise, nutrition and balance are closely related and combined them into a holistic life philosophy. They are known as the "five pillars." the Kneipp philosophy is included in the offer of Terme Snovik, which is also the first local tourism provider to offer the experience of all five Kneipp elements. In the colorful world of plants Potok Arboretum Every year, at the end of April, two million tulips bloom in the Volčji Potok Arboretum. Next to them, of course, there are many other flowers that announce the arrival of the awakening spring. But not only in spring but Volčji Potok Arboretum also offers the possibility of walks in the vivid colour spectrum of plants from all over the world in all seasons. The park, which covers 85 hectares with around 3,500 species and varieties of woody plants, is considered the largest botanical garden in Slovenia and can be placed alongside the most famous botanical parks in the world. Among the shepherds on the big mountain If we head north from Kamnik, we arrive in the valley of Kamniška Bistrica, where we can enjoy the beauty of unspoilt nature and cool off in the hot summer months. Kamniška Bistrica, which attracts many walkers, mountaineers, hunters and fishermen, is also an excellent starting point for hikes to the peaks of the Kamnik-Savinjske Alps. Velika Planina is the most visited among the Kamnik peaks, which is considered the most beautiful Slovenian mountain due to its exceptional views and preserved pastoral heritage. The tradition of shepherding is presented in the only preserved oval shepherd's hut, the Preskar Maria museum, and the chapel of Maria Snežna also has a special place in the shepherd's settlement. Velika Planina is characterized by small thorn cheeses with strong love symbolism. In the summer, the mountain offers many opportunities for wonderful walks and encounters with the life of shepherds, and it is especially magical in the winter when it is covered with a blanket of white snow. You can go to the mountain by following well-marked hiking trails, and a swing and a chairlift bring visitors to the mountain every day of the year. Plan Your Visit Accessible by train or car, Kamnik is the perfect destination for families, adventurers, and history enthusiasts alike. - Lake Bled holidays
A tourist pearl on the edge of Triglav National Park. This paradise on Earth is swelled by green tourism, which is why the Bled is one of the places with fresh air and a healing climate. The city and its surroundings offer you many natural experiences and a really large selection of activities for families with children, adrenalin lovers and athletes. If you want to explore it all, you will have to take several days off. Because we are a free-spirited family and I want my children to have a relaxed holiday, I decided to take an amazing house with a pool from a private provider with a beautiful yard in front the house with a wonderful large green area, so kids can play on it, garden furniture, deckchairs and barbecue. Of the apartments in the house, some of them have modern furniture, and the other has slightly older furniture but it's cute. The provider also has bicycles for rent. Lake Bled holidays- accommodations and more In terms of other accommodations, hotels, apartments, glamping, holiday homes and other providers are available. Let us take a closer look at the treasures of this oasis paradise on Earth. One of them is a magical lake of a unique shape carved by a glacier. In some places it reaches a depth of up to 30 meters, it is home to 19 different types of fish, and beautiful colourful water lilies float on the surface. Access to the lake is provided by well-maintained paths and wooden jetties. In the summer you can swim in the lake, diving while in the winter, if the surface is enough frozen, you can go ice-skating. We recommend a visit in the summer or spring when nature wakes up, everything turns green and there are many flowers, ornamental shrubs and trees. In the middle of the lake is a unique natural island and you can get there by boats called platina or rent your boat and row towards the islet. You can take a walk or bike around the lake. There is a path, which is 6 kilometres long or just sitting and enjoy a view of the lake by the beautiful terrace of the hotel. On the cliff by the lake stands the fairy-tale Castle of Bled. You can access it by stairs through amazing trees on both sides or by car from the other side but the price of the parking lot is quite expensive. In general, Bled is also expensive when it comes to food in restaurants. We don't recommend visiting the top of the castle with a stroller because of the steep path. Other available activities in Bled and its surroundings are an adrenaline-filled descent with a summer sledge, zipline, river rafting, fishing and incredible panoramic flight with a balloon. Discover the charms of caves, Vintgar Gorge , and popular hiking spots of Ojstrica, Mala and Velika Osojnica or just let yourself be pampered in the thermal pools and don't forget to visit a Dinosaur Park with your kids. A Few Local Tips: Bled can be a pricier destination, particularly regarding restaurant meals. Consider self-catering in your chosen accommodation. Bled Castle's pathway to the top is quite steep, making it unsuitable for strollers. Pre-purchase tickets online for popular attractions, especially during peak season. Unforgettable Lake Bled holidays Bled is more than just a picturesque destination; it's an experience that lingers in the memory long after you depart. Whether you seek family fun, outdoor adventures, or a touch of historical charm, Bled promises an unforgettable Slovenian escape. Ready to embark on your Lake Bled holidays? - Famous Lake in Slovenia: Discover the Hidden Gem of Vanganel
Nestled in the picturesque hinterland of Koper lies a hidden gem – Vanganel Lake. This stunning, emerald-green artificial lake is a perfect destination for family outings, nature lovers, and fishing enthusiasts. You can get there by car or by bike because there is an arranged bicycle path that runs along the plain, but when you arrive in Vanganel village, you may have to ride your bike carefully on the main road for about a kilometre. When driving along the road bends towards Marezige, you will see this emerald artificial lake on the left. Along the road, you will notice some macadam sections that lead you down to the lake, as the path to it leads from several different directions. We went to the lake by car. The lower side of the lake hides a large forest with trees that go so high in the sky and a high stone barrier with a path that leads you slightly uphill to the lake. Once you get up, you have a view of the whole lake and the forest that is below the lake. I don't like this area, although many people organize picnics here, unfortunately, they leave a mess behind, and it is so sad sometimes to see that rubbish around. Well, the other side of the lake from the upper side is amazing and magical. You have an amazing forest path. You can buy a fishing permit on the website of the fishing family, and you enjoy all day along the many sweet corner shores of the lake among the amazing trees. Furthermore, you are going to relax perfectly. Slovenia Lake Fishing Some facts about the lake, as I say this lake is artificial and in some places, it reaches a depth of 18 meters. This smaragd lake is home to many fish such as catfish, carp, pike, chub, grass carp and perch and some of them are big. Vanganel Lake is a haven for fishing enthusiasts. With a fishing permit, available on the website of the local fishing family, you can spend your day surrounded by serene waters and lush greenery. The lake is home to various fish, including catfish, carp, pike, chub, grass carp, and perch, some of which grow to impressive sizes. The peaceful environment and abundance of fish make it an ideal spot for a relaxing day of fishing. Best Family Vacation Slovenia For families seeking a tranquil escape, Vanganel Lake offers an idyllic setting. The lake is accessible by car or bike, with a well-maintained bicycle path leading to the village of Vanganel. Once there, families can enjoy various activities , from picnicking in the designated areas to exploring the beautiful forest paths surrounding the lake. The upper side of the lake is particularly enchanting, with its magical forest trails and breathtaking views. We came with the attention of going on a wonderful hike that goes all around the lake to the village Marezige. This place we know, so we don't need directions, but for all people that don't know the place, you have in village Vanganel at the roundabout, a large board with the description of the thematic routes , which is called the way of the heart. The path for the heart was created under the auspices of the association for the health of the heart and blood vessels for everyone whose health may not allow too much effort. There are 3 versions of the route available, the first one which takes 90 minutes, the second route an additional 45 minutes more and the third which takes about 3 hours, and we chose this third the longest one. We left the car at the last part of the macadam which is located next to the road, right from the upper path, and we went down the macadam path between the trees into the forest. When you come into the forest, that area is incredibly magical. You will be taken over by an incredible peace, the beauty of the green trees around you and the beautiful birdsong. A small stream will run past you, making its way through the forest paths to reach the lake. I would rather sit for hours and enjoy the embrace of nature, so relaxed and in silence. All along the path that takes you slightly uphill you have some access to the lake itself, At the top, the path splits and descends from the left into an incredible forest. Paradise just begins here. All that surrounds is only a beautiful green forest, a pleasant shade, somewhere the sun's rays manage to break through to the ground and the paths go through the forest litter of fallen colourful leaves. Here in this amazing forest is hidden a small waterfall. You can go on a hike with your family, by yourself and even with your pets. Here and there in the forest, you can meet other hikers and families. Don't be afraid, you can't get lost! Slovenia with Kids Children will love the adventure of hiking around Vanganel Lake and discovering its hidden treasures, such as the small waterfall nestled within the forest. The hike to the village of Marezige is an exciting journey, with paths that wind through dense forests, past olive groves, and terraced fields. In Marezige, families can take spectacular views of the surrounding villages, forests, sea, and coast. A nearby children's playground offers a perfect spot for kids to play and unwind after the hike. Instructive Tip for Visitors When visiting Vanganel Lake, remember to respect the natural environment. Pack out all trash and leave no trace to ensure this beautiful area remains pristine for future visitors. Additionally, familiarize yourself with the local wildlife and plant life to enhance your experience and foster a deeper connection with nature. Conclusion-Famous Lake in Slovenia Vanganel Lake is a true-hidden paradise in Slovenia, is not-so-famous lake in Slovenia offering a blend of adventure, relaxation, and natural beauty.
